I serve God and others by offering real-world solutions based on my real-world experiences. I strive to be open, honest, and practical to inspire others to move forward.

what is your mission statementThis is my mission statement. Not just for this blog or my writing or my speaking, this is my life mission. My business mission cannot be separated from my life mission.

Do you have a mission statement? It’s o.k. to admit you don’t. I didn’t for most of my life. “Doing God’s will” just wasn’t enough for me, especially when I struggled to understand God’s will and how it applies to me.

If you do have a mission statement, have you revisited it? I don’t think your core mission will change, but how you word it may. Or you may want to add more detail. Or, if you’re like me, you may wonder why you wrote what you did.

It’s not something that you’ll sit down over coffee and complete right away. It can take months as you pray and ponder, write and re-write. Here are a few steps to begin:

1. Know your worldview.

In the first three words, a reader knows my worldview. I believe in God and serve Him. Your worldview is your foundation to your mission.

2. Know your gifts and talents.

Sometimes we don’t want to admit some of our gifts and talents because it sounds prideful. Having the gift of intercessory prayer is much more spiritual than the gift of teaching and administration, right? God has given you your gifts for His purpose. Boldly step forward and use them.

3. Know what it is you are doing.

O.K. That’s not as easy as it may sound. What are you going to do with your gifts and talents? I have been told numerous times that I give practical advice. What I share in my writing and speaking is usually based on my experience, real-world solutions from real-world experience. That’s probably why I have practical solutions.

4. Know how you are going to fulfill your mission.

You’ll notice I don’t have writing or speaking in my mission statement. That’s because this statement applies to my life. I strive to be open, honest, and practical. I strive to inspire others. I try to do these things in all areas of my life, including writing and speaking.

Your statement can be long and detailed or short like mine. I could easily add how I’m going to be open in my endeavors, what solutions I’m offering, who exactly I’m going to inspire. It is YOUR mission, detail it as you and God determine. You may want to use mine as a model or an outline. You may want to begin with a Bible verse. You may want to start from scratch.

Don’t worry if you don’t have your statement completed this week or even this month. Take the time you need. Partner with God to see where He leads you. Enjoy the surprise He may have for you.

If you don’t have a written mission statement, what has been your hurdle to get started?

If you do have a mission statement, please share it with us.

Thank you for sharing this excellent article. I appreciate the four steps to consider when preparing to create a personal mission statement, and I’m sure I will be quoting you in the future. Also, thank you for the recommendation of Sabrina Justison’s booklet. A good resource to help guide the process.

Having a personal mission statement has helped me focus on God’s will not my distractions.

Most of my life I misunderstood Lent. I thought it was for a specific group of people, rules to follow, and things to give up. I've learned there's more to lent than a checklist. It's a time to prepare ourselves and hearts for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. https://www.susankstewart.com/what-about-lent-what-is-it-exactly/
